PREBENOÎT ABBEY

Founded on 11 July 1140, first affiliated to Dalon then attached to the order of Cîteaux in 1163, the abbey of Prébenoît has gone through the centuries, not without turmoil. Fortified during the Hundred Years' War, looted and damaged during the Wars of Religion, it was sold in 1790 after being declared national property, and then became private property. Today, thanks to the municipality of Bétête and to the will of the association "Prébenoît en Marche", the abbey is the setting for various cultural events aimed at reviving it a little. Guided tours by appointment and it is possible to stroll freely among the monastery buildings and the ruins of the former abbey church.
