LE MONUMENT AUX MORTS DE GENTIOUX
The famous war memorial in Gentioux-Pigerolles.
In the centre of the village, the famous monument to the dead of the commune is enthroned. It is one of the ten monuments of pacifist inspiration listed in France. The apostrophe "Cursed be the war" is highlighted by the raised fist of an orphan, dressed in a smock and wearing clogs. When it was inaugurated by local elected officials and the population in 1922, the prefecture refused to be represented. When troops passed the monument on their way to the military camp of La Courtine, they were ordered to turn their heads away.
