ÉGLISE NOTRE-DAME
Gothic church located in Le Grand-Bourg, dedicated to the Virgin and to Saint Léobon, a local hermit who died in 529
This 13th, 16th and 17th century church is one of the only Gothic churches in Creuse. Classified as a historical monument since 1929, it is dedicated to the Virgin and to Saint Léobon, a local hermit who died in 529. Some of the stained glass windows have scallops, a reference to the fact that the building is located on one of the roads to Santiago de Compostela. In the choir, an astonishing granite high relief represents the Virgin and Child, the reliquary arm of Saint Léobon (12th century) and the lying (13th century) of the priest Gérald. Around the church, one can admire sarcophagi and funerary urns that were once located in the old cemetery.
