ST. JULIAN CHURCH
The Saint-Julien de Saint-Vaury church, built in the 13th century, has a choir and an astonishing openwork concrete bell tower
Built in the 13th century, the church of Saint-Julien de Saint-Vaury was for a long time a dependency of the Saint-Martial de Limoges abbey. Following the collapse of its choir in 1792, the monument was the subject of work between 1824 and 1826. In 1921, after a fire caused by lightning, the bell tower was destroyed. It was the Perret brothers, also responsible for the church of Raincy, who took care of the building site. The astonishing bell tower they erected is made of openwork concrete. It is one of the Perret brothers' reinforced concrete achievements that inspired Le Corbusier.
Nearby, don't miss the older Saint-Michel chapel with its traditional chestnut shingle bell tower. It is perched on a hill and surrounded by an old cemetery.
