TREASURE OF THE CHURCH OF AMBAZAC
A very large treasure in thin gilded copper plate, embossed, chased, stamped, studded and decorated with enamels.
The church houses two exceptional pieces for which Ambazac is renowned: a shrine and a dalmatic, inherited from the treasures of Grandmont Abbey. The remarkable shrine (late 12th century) is a very large work, made of thin sheets of gilded copper, decorated with champlevé enamels, 300 stone cabochons and glass beads. The dalmatic, a liturgical vestment, is said to have been worn by Saint Stephen and given as a gift by Matilda, wife of German Emperor Henry V.
