WOOD CARVING
Lighthouse tower and gallery, in the center of an artificial lake of Beaumont-du-lac, housing a sculpture park and an open-air museum
Designed by the architects Aldo Rossi and Xavier Fabre, the International Centre for Art and Landscape is an astonishing construction consisting of a lighthouse tower and a gallery, built on the island of Vassivière, in the centre of a 1,000 hectare artificial lake. The buildings house several temporary exhibition rooms, an artist's studio, a bookshop and a documentation centre, specialising in contemporary art, landscape and nature. The Sculpture Park, an open-air museum, presents permanent or temporary, monumental or discreet works of art, created in situ by artists from all over the world who are invited to enter into dialogue with the landscape and the history of the site. A detailed visit is necessary to discover these installations that rival each other in creativity.
After the visits, the beautiful terrace of the Café de l'Ile, facing the lake, awaits you to allow you to eat and savour the passing of time.
