CASTLE OF CHÂLUS-MAULMONT
The Château de Châlus-Maulmont, also known as the Tour du Fort, is a historic site in Châlus. Built in 1280 by Géraud de Maulmont, advisor to the Viscountess of Limoges, Marguerite de Bourgogne, the château has suffered much damage over the centuries, particularly during the French Revolution. Dismantled in 1790 and used as a prison, the roof collapsed in 1928 and the tower in 1994. Today, the remains of the château are an interesting testimony to 13th-century architecture. Visits are free of charge, but a voluntary contribution is appreciated. The château welcomes both individual visitors and groups.
