This 32 m-high tower is the castle's former keep, and there are also walks to explore the surrounding area
It is the former keep of the fortified castle built by the viscounts of Limoges in the 12th century at the top of the feudal mound. Rectangular in plan (12.9 m x 9 m), it rises to a height of 32 metres, culminating at 418 metres. It is one of the best preserved quadrangular keeps. It has the same characteristics as other dungeons of the Viscounty of Limoges: small surface area, flat buttresses, access to the first floor. Archaeological excavations, still in progress, have brought to light a number of archaeological objects such as bones, ceramics and metals. Near the villages of La Flotte and La Chapelle, rich in buildings and tile works with typical architecture, there are serpentine moors (de la Flotte and du Cluzeau) which a hiking trail crosses. The foot of the tower is the starting point for pleasant walks: follow the signs on the information panels, and there are hiking trails to explore the surrounding area.
