PARK OF THE CHÂTEAU DE LAS-CROUX
Landscaped park with numerous trees dating back to the century, fishing pond, greenhouse and orange grove in Cromac, waiting to be discovered.
The present castle (1887) and the ruins of the old one (mid 15th century) dominate the Benaize valley and offer, via stone steps, access to the river. Private property, only the 5 hectare landscaped park can be visited. It was designed in 1893 by the landscape architect Henri Nivet, and is home to many trees dating from the 19th century. The entrance is through "les tourelles", a neo-Gothic gatehouse with towers and machicolations. The water came from these entrance turrets which were themselves fed by springs upstream of the pond (hydraulic ram system), which is open to fishermen from Palm Sunday until the end of the year. The large driveway, as it leaves, leads to the old vegetable garden with, in the background, an orangery and a greenhouse and, through a side door, the old orchard. The visit continues along an undergrowth path and allows you to walk along the stables that house stalls for horses and sheds for horse-drawn carriages. The site and the castle, listed as a Historic Monument, have undergone some renovations.
