MONTBRUN CASTLE
This castle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful monuments of Limousin and one of the most photographed
Private castle that can be visited in the summer by reservation.
With its pond acting as a moat, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful monuments of Limousin and one of the most photographed! The feudal mound whose remains are still visible, succeeded this castle built in 1179 by Aimery Brun and of which there remains the elegant quadrangular keep crowned with machicolation. Burned down and ruined in 1385, it was rebuilt in the 15th century by Pierre de Montbrun, bishop of Limoges. The massive round towers date from this last period. This fortified castle has a remarkable character thanks to its serrated round towers and its quadrangular keep. It has a rich and tumultuous history. Indeed, it was the victim of many events that marked its history: buildings, destruction in the 12th century, fires in 1569 after the attacks of the Protestants, looting during the Revolution ... It was then restored in the 19th and 20th centuries and again victim of a fire in 1917. Today, it flows pleasant days on the quiet banks that surround it and its 165 hectares of land.
