MAISON DE L'OR EN LIMOUSIN AND GOLD PANNING
Museum showing the different techniques used since the Gallic period
In July and August, open every day from 3pm to 6pm; in June and September, Saturdays and Sundays from 3pm to 6pm. Other days and out of season, by appointment.
In this region of southern Limousin, gold mining already existed in the time of the Gauls. In the commune of Le Chalard, the Bourneix gold site was the last one in operation before its closure in 2002. With the help of photos, videos, maps and various documents, the museum retraces the various techniques used since the Gallic period, the discovery of these old mines in 1982 and the processing of the ore on site. You can also learn how this precious metal is used and the distribution of deposits around the world. A gold rush that is still going on today. Managed by an association, this museum can be discovered on a guided tour. A visit adapted to people with disabilities.
