THE GARDEN OF ORSAY
The garden that was once a landmark of Roman Augustoritum, the Jardin d'Orsay in Limoges
The garden of Orsay was a high place of the Roman Augustoritum since it is located at the exact site of the amphitheater of the city. In the 18th century, the steward butcher Orsay created a promenade by filling in the Roman arenas. It is this development that gives the site its name. Today, the roots of the two hundred year old chestnut trees plunge into what was once one of the largest amphitheatres in Roman Gaul. The garden has recently been renovated with a skatepark, a shared garden, an esplanade for events and the enhancement of the Gallo-Roman remains.
