THE BURG
An old Limousin village to discover with the tourist office, which has changed name through the ages.
In the heart of the Millevaches Natural Park, Peyrat-le-Château is undoubtedly one of the oldest villages in the Limousin. Successively named Peyrat-le-Fort, Peyrat-la-Montagne and Peyrat-le-Château through the ages, the village was ravaged in the 12th century, leaving only two buildings from that era, rebuilt in the 15th century: the Saint-Martin church and the Tour Carrée, or Tour-porte, the centerpiece of the enclosure's reworked defensive system. The tourist office will provide you with a leaflet for a one-hour tour of the village's streets and squares.
