THE BURG
A village distinguished by the quality of its flowers, it boasts quarrymen's houses in blue granite, a chapel and a church
Since 1963, the centre-bourg has endeavoured to distinguish itself each year by the quality of its flowering, which has won it numerous awards. The historic heart of Saint-Hilaire, a small place outside the town, deserves a little break. It gives an image almost unchanged since the end of the 18th century: the quarrymen's houses made of blue granite, the 17th century Notre-Dame chapel and the recently renovated Romanesque church (12th century) where one can come in the summer to observe the superb stained glass windows by Léa Sham's, the beautiful original frescoes and exhibitions. Starting from the town hall square, a path (12 km) that can be practiced on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike will make you discover the heritage of this charming preserved hamlet and the exploitation of the old granite quarries.
