IRON CHURCH OF CRUSNES

Church built entirely of iron and located in Crusnes in the heart of the mining towns
Built between 1938 and 1939, at the request of the Wendel de Hayange company, according to the plans of the architect Claude Robbe, it was restored and repainted in mouse grey thanks to the association of the Friends of Sainte-Barbe, before being classified as a Historic Monument. Left abandoned for many years, since May 2015, it has been the property of the model Léonore Scherrer, who plans to transform the building into a recording studio (in 2018, no project has yet seen the light of day and the church remains closed). Built entirely of iron, the church of Saint Barbara is nevertheless a unique model in Europe. Situated in the heart of the mining towns, this iron maiden embodies the memory of Crusnes' glorious iron and steel past. Despite its private character, you can discreetly walk around it and knock gently on the walls to hear the characteristic sound of iron. For movie lovers, a scene from the film Les Rivières pourpres 2, shot in the mining basin, was shot in front of the church. A site to visit imperatively!
