THE MUSEUM OF THE FRIENDS OF THE OLD COUNTRY
A charming little museum, housing a place for temporary exhibitions, conferences, thematic animations.
This charming little museum, as there aren't many left, is located in the medieval castle of Dieulouard, which has been partly restored. It mainly deals with archaeology, through the period of Gallo-Roman antiquity. One will retain vestiges of the site of Scarpone, the ancient name given to the town of Dieulouard during Roman antiquity. As well as the reconstitution of a cemetery of burials known as under tiles. Originally, the town of Scarpone extended over a low alluvial terrace before being divided into several islets, linked together by stone and wooden bridges. As for the great Roman road linking Lyon to Trier via Metz, it crossed the Moselle at Scarpone (now Dieulouard). Its privileged position (including this crossing of the Moselle) has always made it a strategic location, even during the High Middle Ages. The site is also a venue for temporary exhibitions, conferences, themed events and concerts.
