THE GODDESS OF GOURMETS
Restaurant inn offering foie gras and homemade dessert in Cassen.
La Chalosse, this hilly part of the South of the Landes, has built up a good reputation for raising fattened ducks. Didier and Sophie Gaugeacq are first and foremost farmers. They grow wheat and corn and raise fat ducks. They opened a farmhouse inn in the village a few years ago. Nothing to envy to the classic restaurants, the reception, the facilities, everything is regulated and monitored by the rigorous charter Bienvenue à la Ferme (Welcome to the Farm). Here everything comes from the farm, for the duck, and from the market gardeners of the area for the vegetables. The Goddess of Gourmets Salad is a small overview of the products: slices of gizzard confit, duck rillettes, duck breast stuffed with foie gras. The whole duck breast is served on toast. If you like fresh foie gras, it will be accompanied by grapes or apples. Grilled duck breast is offered rare, but it's your choice. The dessert allows you to taste a Pastis (cake) from the area or the famous tourtière. There's always a homemade dessert, a floating island for example. If you liked it, nothing could be easier than to buy the canned products and why not rent the rural gîte located in the courtyard (classified 3 "épis" by the Gîtes de France). With a surface area of 75 m², it can accommodate up to 5 people. A guest room is also available. A stay placed under the sign of calm, the charms of nature and local gastronomy!
