THE CASTLE OF MONCEL AND ITS PARK
Château de Jarny hosts local environmental associations for educational events.
The construction of this castle dates back to the 12th century. It had a drawbridge, moat and ditch. In the 19th century, it became an elegant quadrangular mansion, with beautiful slate roofs with 4 sides. The wings, on the other hand, are relatively recent since they date from 1905. The Old Dovecote and the old outbuildings surround the estate. During the First World War, the castle of Moncel was occupied by the Germans and transformed into a headquarters. Kaiser Wilhelm II stayed there. Since 1980, the castle and its large park of 17 hectares are managed by the municipality of Jarny. In 2011, the place has taken a decidedly ecological color, since the castle of Moncel houses the House of the Environment and hosts local environmental associations. Throughout the year, educational activities to raise awareness of the environment are offered. As for the park classified as a "Jardin de France", it serves as a refuge for the LPO, League for the Protection of Birds. Several highlights take place in the park Moncel during the year: Plein Air Rock the1st Saturday of June from 17:30, Sundays in summer Moncel mid-July to mid-August, Festival of Nature the1st Sunday of September from 10am to 19h. Here is a place where it is good to stroll from the arrival of spring, children will appreciate the playgrounds that are dedicated to them, adults will enjoy the bucolic and picturesque side of the place on the edge of one of the ponds.
