THE MAHUET TOWER
Medieval tower with solid stone fortifications, a prestigious emblem of the Lordship in Labry
The Mahuet tower is another picturesque curiosity of the village of Labry. Ancient fortified house of the Middle Ages, already mentioned in 1266, the specialists put forward the hypothesis of its date of construction around the 13th century. This medieval tower with solid stone fortifications was the property of the Mahuet family until the 18th century. A prestigious emblem of the Lordship, this solid stone sentinel was built near the mound, at the highest point of the village, to offer protection to the inhabitants and animals in case of danger. In the past, it was on this highly strategic point that the annual meetings and assemblies of the village chiefs were held.
