Statue of Comte de Lasalle, general of the Grande Armée killed at the Battle of Wagram in 1809
As soon as you arrive in the courtyard of the Château des Lumières, you are greeted by the imposing statue, the work of the sculptor Charles Cordier in 1893, representing the Count de Lasalle, General of the Grand Army killed in the Battle of Wagram in 1809. On the base, one can read this inscription: "Lasalle, born in Metz 1775, killed in Wagram 1809". This immortalized posture of the intrepid horseman on his mount symbolizes bravery before death in battle. Situated in the heart of the castle courtyard, this proud statue with its remarkable details is also a reminder of the cavalry and military past of Lunéville, and of the castle as a staff residence in the 19th and 20th centuries. Tribute to this remarkable tactician and his legendary bravery and who is considered one of the greatest cavalry generals of his time.
