OBSERVATOIRE DE DAX
The Dax Observatory was created in 1976 and officially opened in 1980, under the impetus of the cultural association of the city. He was a pioneer in the field of amateur astronomy in France, including the creation of the first amateur planetarium in 1982, the first discovery in the world by an amateur of a comet with a remote electronic camera (in 1997), or the discovery of five asteroids! A dynamic that has also led over the years to countless observations of comets, as well as the systematic study of the famous geocroid asteroids, whose orbits and trajectories can possibly cross those of the Earth. On the extension side, the observatory participates in the Stars of Stars, La Science en fête, as well as other important celestial appointments according to astronomical events. The fight against light pollution is also one of its spearheads, especially given its geographical location a few kilometers from the city center… In fact, to find it, just go through Pascal Lafitte street along the railway line to quickly locate the couplings that compose it! When the sky is clear, this observatory offers a real bowl of air (starry stars!).
