Also known as the "Nèhe Spring" after a Celtic water goddess, the Fontaine Chaude is the symbol of the spa. The benefits of the waters of Dax have given rise to the legend of a Roman legionary. Garrisoned in Dax and convinced that his rheumatic dog would be unable to follow him on his missions, he decided to put an end to the canine's suffering by throwing it into the Adour river. On his return from Spain, he found his dog cured by the thermal mud in which he had washed up. This is where the story of Dacquois thermalism begins.
