CITADEL GATE
A listed Renaissance-style gateway in Nancy, it marks the boundary between the old town and the faubourg des Trois-Maisons.
The Renaissance-style Porte de la Citadelle, a listed historic monument, marks the boundary between the old town and the faubourg des Trois-Maisons. Originally called Porte Notre-Dame, it was built between two bastions in 1598 by Florent Drouin le Jeune, at the request of Duke Charles III, to reinforce the defense of the Porte de la Craffe. Damaged during the Revolution, the facade has retained much of its Renaissance decoration. A hidden door even allows access to the old rampart which shelters a pretty medieval and secret garden.
