CRAMPON DOOR
Nancy's oldest and most monumental gateway, one of the city's most emblematic monuments.
One of the most emblematic monuments of the old city! Both the oldest and the most monumental of all Nancy's gates, the Porte de la Craffe was built at the end of the 14th century to protect the city during its expansion. Its windows were arranged to facilitate firing and its bretches had an overhang to bombard the enemy with projectiles and boiling liquids. The building has undergone many modifications but has lost none of its splendor. It closes the Grande-Rue, the commercial artery in the old town.
