HEREAN ARC
Triumphal arch erected to the glory of Louis XV, on the site of the former Royal Gate, north of the Stanislas square in Nancy
Erected to the glory of Louis XV between 1753 and 1755, this triumphal arch located north of the Place Stanislas originally had a fortification role and was connected to the ramparts that separated the Old City from the New City. The Héré Arch was built on the site of the former Royal Gate built by Louis XIV. Symbolically representing war and peace, the monument was inspired by the arches of Constantine and Septimius Severus in Rome. The statue of Stanislas, on the square of the same name, points its finger in the direction of this building.
