A museum offering a plunge into distant waters, with some sixty freshwater and tropical seawater aquariums...
The MAN is a real point of attraction for the inhabitants of the city, the tourists passing through and the curious of nature. Dating back to 1930, it now offers a dive into distant waters, with some sixty freshwater, tropical or temperate seawater, or brackish water aquariums housing 220 aquatic species. Seahorses, clown fish, balloon fish or trumpet fish, eels, rays and flying scorpion fish, but also crustaceans, mollusks and plants, the waters of America, Africa, Asia, the Pacific or the Caribbean are represented. On the first floor, a gallery of 400m2 exhibits nearly 600 specimens from the heritage collections. Butterflies, insects, mammals and the great shark or giant squid, naturalized animals and fossils that take you on a journey to the heart of historical eras and periods. Temporary exhibitions for young and old, conferences on nature and fun workshops are also organized. Elementary school children will try to reconstruct a complete food chain in the zoology gallery. Kindergarteners will discover five animals, each inhabiting one of the explored continents and will learn about the diversity of shapes and colors of animal species typical of a coral reef. Sometimes the Museum-Aquarium even opens its doors in the evening for unusual and amusing visits, such as the Horror Show with its exploration of the museum by torchlight. Free on the first Sunday of the month and reduced rate after 5pm.
