Museum of Fine Arts, mainly devoted to European art from the end of the 14th century to the present day, on the Place Stanislas Nancy.

Located on the beautiful Place Stanislas, a square ranked among the most beautiful in the world and elected favorite monument of the French in 2021, the Fine Arts Museum was built in place of the old opera house which burned down at the beginning of the last century and was rebuilt in the image of the Garnier opera house, right in front of the museum.

The museum is worth a visit for its architecture. We discover a magnificent harmony between the architecture of the eighteenth century and contemporary architecture. Indeed, a glass gallery connects two parts of the building, but also, when you go to the basement, the discovery of the remains of the old fortifications of the city, built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. You can follow the history of the city on a large screen.

Let's stay in the basement to admire a magnificent collection of Daum glassware, retracing the different eras, including that of King Stanislas, with very beautiful glasses engraved with gilding, but also vases more impressive than the others. On the first floor of the museum, one can admire the furniture of the Nancy architect Prouvé (the museum organizes a visit to his house), before discovering the collection of paintings of contemporaries including impressionists such as Renoir, Monet, Manet, or some painters of the Nabis and Fauvist movements, Bonnard or Manguin. We then take the majestic marble staircase to access the collections from the fourteenth to the nineteenth century, where we discover the greatest painters and classified by era. Along the way, we also admire Rodin, Maillol, Zadkine, Arp, César and of course the Nancy School. We also stop for a moment on the large painting of the painter Friand which represents a funeral of the XIXth century. Impressive!

The museum also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions of all kinds and participates each year in the European night of the museum. It organizes urban art tours as well as guided tours around Art Nouveau, in collaboration with the Ecole de Nancy Museum and the Majorelle House. There are also participatory art workshops organized by the museum and tours reserved for children. At the end of your visit, don't miss a visit to the museum store where you will find beautiful books about painting or the history of the city, as well as books to stimulate creativity in children and pretty notebooks to write down your impressions.
