THE HENRY BROTHERS' HANGING DOOR
The Henry brothers' hanging gate, an architectural fantasy in the heart of the old town.
Walking along rue des Frères-Henry, near the Grande-Rue and the Porte de la Craffe, one notices this strange suspended door, as if it were entirely walled in. An architectural fantasy, the result of modern urbanism. In the 1930s, for reasons of leveling and roadway, new streets had to be created, affecting the whole of the Hôtel de Fontenoy, which had already been transformed, except for the Square Bichat, which remained intact, and this large stone door that had become suspended.
