PLACE OF ALLIANCE
A baroque square with a central fountain sculpted by Cyfflé, century-old lime trees and Nancy townhouses.
Built by Emmanuel Héré, the Place d'Alliance mirrors the Place Stanislas, in almost immediate proximity and in the same classical style. The Place d'Alliance is also baroque, with the central fountain sculpted by Cyfflé. Its hundred-year-old lime trees and its private mansions allowed it to be registered as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1983. Its name pays tribute to the signing of the 1756 treaty of alliance between Louis XV and Maria Theresa of Austria, wife of Francis I of the Holy Roman Empire. The calm and luxury of the ducal era remain intact.
