ARCHITECTURE AND ART NOUVEAU
Architecture and Art Nouveau in Nancy organizing a guided tour through the virtual application Immersion Nancy Art Nouveau
Admire the treasures of Art Nouveau in the heart of the city, visible in the facades and streets. The Ecole de Nancy was revealed in the 1900s, notably by Jean Prouvé. The Maison Jean Prouvé, intimately linked to the city, opens its doors entirely in the summer and during the Heritage Days, with the workshop and the garden. Artists and art industrialists came together under the impetus of the École de Nancy group, which also included the cabinetmaker and decorator Louis Majorelle. The plant world and flexible geometric patterns are their main source of inspiration. Innovative materials such as glass, wood, iron and ceramic cabochons were used extensively. The Villa Majorelle remains today a jewel of Art Nouveau architecture. The villa and the museum of the school form an itinerary that the tourist office proposes to follow. In doing so, the tourist office provides access to all monuments, including the terrace and floors of the Villa Majorelle, through the virtual application Immersion Nancy Art Nouveau. Visitors who opt for the guided tour will be able to learn more about the Art Nouveau movement, which is omnipresent in the architecture, from the Saurupt park to the facades of the city center, including the Daum collection at the Musée des Beaux-Arts. Although the Art Nouveau movement began in the 1900s, its trace is still alive and well in Nancy's heritage.
