ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH OF NOMENY
This church allows you to admire groups of statues from the 15th and 16th centuries
If we know the name Nomény for the ruins of its castle, its medieval church, on the other hand, is too often misunderstood. Nevertheless, it is an unsuspected architectural jewel of impressive proportions. Its history is as rich as it is ancient. In the 12th century AD, it was built according to a basilical plan, before later adopting a Latin cross plan. Later, from the 13th to the 14th century, it responded to the canons of Romanesque art before marrying those of Gothic art. Mixing styles, mixing genres, this church is not lacking character! In the 18th century, it adopted the definitive five-nave plan that we know today. Two-thirds of the church was destroyed during the First World War and was rebuilt between 1924 and 1928. Inside, one can admire the groups of statues from the 15th and 16th centuries and appreciate the good acoustics of the place, much appreciated by the choirs and orchestras of the region.
