ANCIENT CASTLE OF NOMENY
Visit to discover the remains of an old castle, full of history, located on the heights of Nomeny.
Ideally located on the heights of Nomeny, the old castle was the property of the bishops of Metz from the year 900 until the middle of the 16th century. If only a ruin remains today, it is nevertheless the witness of the turbulent history of Lorraine. Strategic high place, the small town of Nomeny was a fortified town until the 17th century. Then it was the turn of Louis XIV to dismantle the site, destroying for political reasons, conquest and power, the 11th century Romanesque fortress and the Gothic residential castle (14th century). Fortunately, several architectural remains from the past are still preserved today. There are three towers, three curtain walls, two moats and the paved courtyard of the fortress. These last witnesses of the old castle of Nomeny are now maintained by a local association that we thank for its action to safeguard the historical heritage.
