THE FOUNTAIN OF PLACE DUROC
Fountain of classical style, built at the initiative of the municipality in Pont-à-Mousson
Previously, there were many wells and fountains that supplied the city with water. History tells us that spring water flowed from the fountain located in the centre of Place Duroc... It was first removed in 1867 before being rebuilt during the First World War. It is a unique monument as it is the only one built to commemorate the dedication of American volunteer ambulance drivers in eastern France from 1915 to 1917. It was built at the initiative of the municipality. This classic work of art is by the architects Vial and Welles Bosworth of the Rockefeller Foundation, the sculptor Siégel and the ironworker Valentin. It is inspired by the old "le Cruchon" fountain destroyed in 1867 and succeeds the music kiosk that was on the square from 1907 to 1913. It was inaugurated on 27 September 1931. Today, its central location in the heart of Place Duroc makes it an essential meeting place for all the inhabitants of Pont-à-Mousson.
