PRENY CASTLE
Ruins of the medieval castle from the time of Emperor Otto, a means of defense by the Dukes of Lorraine against the bishops of Metz
The village of Prény is dominated by the imposing ruins of its medieval castle. Although invaded in places by vegetation, the height and thickness of the walls show the power and importance of the castle at its height. The first mention of the castle dates back to the year 900, during the reign of Emperor Otto. Because of its strategic location, this medieval fortress was used as a means of defence by the Dukes of Lorraine against the Bishops of Metz. Real "war cry" of the soldiers of Lorraine, before Nancy was capital, the dukes of Lorraine often resided in Prény. The building suffered wars and the ravages of time, it was abandoned and became uninhabitable. In 1918, the parts that were still standing were destroyed during the fighting between the Germans and the Americans. Today only ruins remain.
