MUSEUM OF CINEMA AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Museum with more than 3,000 objects, from the history of the still image to the moving image
Created on two floors at the initiative of the municipality, the museum, one of the largest in France, is managed and run by the association of Friends and Collectors of the Museum of Cinema and Photography. Opened in May 1998, it contains more than 3,000 objects, from the history of the still image to the moving image. After the Louis Lumière room, dedicated to the inventory of the cinematograph, the Léon Gaumont room, and the Charles Pathé room, which evoke these two great film manufacturers, the visit continues in the E.G Robertson room, dedicated to the animation of the image. Three frescoes retrace the great moments of this instrument: a phantasmagoria session in 1795, and two magic lantern sessions in 1850 and 1870 for public writers during the siege of Paris. The E. Reynaud presents dioramas (3D views), phenakistiscopes (discs in front of a mirror) and other thaumatropes where retinal persistence plays a big role and allows the fusion of images between them. In the Nicephore Niepce room, a wall background represents the setting of a photographic studio around 1880. A giant fresco serves as a backdrop for the scene of the lunch on the grass from Jean Renoir's film. This room (equipped with a large photographic chamber) and the Louis Daguerre room offer a wide panorama of the evolution of cameras from their beginnings to the folding of plates and film, from the 1930s to today. Fun and educational workshops are also offered as well as occasional exhibitions.

The ratings and reviews below reflect the subjective opinions of members and not the opinion of The Little Witty.
