CITY OF SAINT-NOLAS-DE-PORT
First named «Port» because of its commercial activity, this city whose existence dates from the Gallo-Roman era took its current name after building a church in 1093, which was destined to receive a relic from Saint-Nicolas, the Bishop of Myre. A century later, a second church is built, where Jeanne d 'Arc will be prayed in particular. Then the current basilica, one of Lorraine's most beautiful, was born between 1481 and 1545… The building was subsequently subjected to numerous damage due to the French Revolution and the Second World War. But it has a fantastic restoration site. The flamboyant Gothic building is exceptional, while still sober, and you can contemplate many pieces in the look of treasures, including the reliquary arm of Saint-Nicolas, gold, silver and vermeil. If your agenda allows you, don't miss the beautiful torch procession, which takes place every year on December 6 th, day of Saint Nichola. But this is not the only center of interest in the city: There is also a museum of Cinema and Photography, in the form of a playful course on 1,000 m ² of exhibitions, but also a museum of the Brewery - the brewing has become one of the specialties of the city! Another point is more original: the reception of white storks, historically present and re-established in 1994. A reintroduction pen even has the birth of 500 pumplings and the presence of a quarantine quarrel that migrates every year.
