TEXTILE MEMORY
Mémoire du Textile, a place to discover a century and a half of textile industry in the heart of nature at Val-et-Châtillon.
Here, textiles are a kind of historical treasure! The first textile factory opened its doors in Val-et-Châtillon in 1850. In the middle of the 20th century, nearly 1,000 employees were involved in the manufacture of fabrics and velvet. Unfortunately, as the sector declined, the factory had to close its doors in 1978. "This is not a reason to forget this glorious past," the Société Cotonnière Lorraine probably thought when it opened the textile museum. It allows visitors to discover a century and a half of the textile industry in the heart of nature. The site presents numerous machines, as well as all the stages of the manufacturing process, from the cotton bale to the final fabric, a testimony of this extraordinary know-how and unfortunately swept away by globalisation
