AUBERGE DES VOYAGEURS
Friendly hostel on the Compostela route from Germany offering low-cost catering
The hostel, which looks like an old railway station with a stagecoach sign on the facade, has been in existence since 1902. Located on the route to Santiago de Compostela from Germany, it is a pleasant and friendly stopover. One can stop there just to eat at a lower cost, during the week by opting for the menu of the day with, for example, a home-made terrine, duck breast with arabica, or grilled tuna, cheese and finish with a heart of morello cherries as a starter. But what makes the charm of this establishment is the weekend, when we book in advance, we are offered a single menu with two suggestions per dish according to the arrivals of the market and products that follow the seasons such as eel, game, frogs, asparagus, strawberries ... So you will be surprised by the frog pie with chives butter, the pike cake with crayfish, the quails stuffed with foie gras with a vegetable, porcini mushrooms and potato flan in a croquette style, the lamb and foie gras crunchy flute, the veal puck on its tomato tatin with herbal juice and chocolate, cheese platter and the exotic fruit gratin with tangerine sabayon. An inn as we like them in France where gastronomy, accommodation and a sense of welcome are inseparable.
