BATTLESHIP FORTIFICATION MUSEUM
Museum allowing to discover many artillery pieces in state of firing like the Hotchkiss gun model 1879
The only example in France of a village integrated into a fortified complex, you must visit this fort which could hold 800 men and which has become a museum. You will discover the chamber of Séré de Rivière, the "Vauban of the 19th century", numerous pieces of artillery in firing condition such as this Hotchkiss gun model 1879 (unique in the world) or a 75C turret with rotational manoeuvring, as well as other heavy weapons. The site also lists a 155 mm turret, the work of Commander Mougin, a real cast iron monster weighing 2,510 tons, the last example from the North of France. Restored and brought to life by a group of volunteers belonging to the La Citadelle association, it takes 2h30 to discover this enormous building. Part of the visit takes place in a small train that was used to supply the troops.
