NEPTUNE
At the beginning of the th century, thanks to the sale of wood, the municipality of Andernay enjoyed a beautiful financial situation. In order to improve the daily lives of its inhabitants, most of whom are breeders, we are thus building the first fountain of drinking Water and the only Lorraine fed by a natural source of Lorraine. The surplus will, on the one hand, serve to feed the drinking water, but also the communal wash. Thus, in 1939, this complex installation was designed to distribute the water, the organ of which, the village fountain, will be flourished by a statue of Neptune carried out by the famous funeral sculptor Meusien Jean-Joseph Caveneget (1806-1870). Housed in a shell shaped niche, the god of the springs and energetic waters of Roman mythology is depicted here threatening a dolphin from his trident. Through the mouth of the whale discharges the water that flows into a distribution vase before finishing its race in a receptacle in half-circle.
