LIOUVILLE FORT
This fort was the only defensive curtain in the Hauts de Meuse region, enabling us to control the passageways and defend the plain.
Fort de Liouville is located in the commune of Apremont-la-Forêt. Part of the Séré de Rivières line, its position enabled it to control crossings over the Meuse and defend the Woëvre plain. Built in masonry between 1876 and 1878, the Liouville fort was the only one in the Hauts de Meuse defensive curtain to feature armour plating. Its strategic role in the sector led to its modernization between 1890 and 1910, a remarkable example of the evolution of fortification techniques in the face of powerful artillery.
