BIRD CAFÉ
Café des oiseaux de Bar-le-Duc, with a collection of stuffed birds, shells and insects, sold at auction
This beautiful facade, adorned with Ionic and Corinthian columns and medallions, is the work of Jean-Joseph Caveneget, a 19th-century sculptor from the Meuse region. It was commissioned by the owner of the house, Louis Poirson, who installed a collection of 500 species of stuffed birds, shells and insects in the café of the Théâtre de la Comédie. Unfortunately, this collection was sold at auction, as no one was found to take over the premises. The building is now closed, and the café's fountain, which has been preserved, now stands on the château's esplanade.
