CLOCK TOWER
A tower with one dial showing the time in the lower town and another showing the time in the upper town.
A rare vestige of the castle's fortifications, this historic monument overlooks the town. Duke Robert de Bar, known as the Magnificent, was responsible for the first clock (1381), which was dismantled in 1670, but the tower remains with two of its three dials. The oldest (1608) tells the time in the lower town and the other (1752) in the upper town. The impressive drone was used to sound the alarm for major ducal events, fairs, tocsin and fires, according to a code known to all. The monument is linked to the lower town by a staircase known as the "80 degrees".
