A square with a statue located a stone's throw from Bar-le-Duc town center, not far from the train station, is home to the covered food market.
Just a stone's throw from the town center and not far from the train station, this square runs alongside the Ornain river. Built on the former Place de l'Abattoir, it was named after Rémy-Joseph Exelmans, the illustrious Marshal of France, in 1878. Renamed Place Thiers between 1878 and 1901, it regained its name after the installation of the statue by sculptors Émile Peynot and Léon Roussel, paying tribute to the marshal, a native of rue Bar-la-Ville. Today, it's a tree-lined paying parking lot, a stone's throw from boulevard de la Rochelle, the town's main thoroughfare.
