LA CHAPELLE DE SAINT-ROUIN
In a green setting in the heart of the Argonese forest, the Saint-Rouin chapel was completely rebuilt in 1946 in a modern architecture that we owe to Father Rayssiguier. The geometrically shaped building mounted on concrete piles blends minimalist design with artists' creations. The Japanese designer Kimié Bando created the stained glass windows, the bell tower and the arabesques of the chapel. The door is a creation of the Hungarian sculptor Pierre Szekely. The history of this place of pilgrimage dates back to September 680. Graudingus, a monk from Tholey Abbey, performed a miracle by saving Lord Austresius' family with water from the Beaulieu Wood Fountain. A chapel was therefore dedicated to him near the location of the fountain, which is still visible. Higher up in the forest, you can also admire an altarpiece from the 18th century Assumption, the last vestige of the church of Beaulieu Abbey.
