MISSOURI MONUMENT
A monument built at the entrance of Cheppy, inaugurated in 1922, dedicated to the memory of those who took part in the struggle.
Less than 2 km from Varennes, the village of Cheppy also bears a souvenir of the passage of the American armies in 1918. Occupied by the Germans for almost the whole of the conflict, Cheppy was only liberated from its invader on 26 September 1918 when the Renault FT17 tank groups overtook the infantry as they approached the village. Despite the presence of anti-tank defences, a certain Colonel Patton encouraged the progression. In the evening, the place is invested. In memory of the state from which the 35th and 89th I.D. took part in the fight, a monument was built at the entrance to Cheppy. Inaugurated in 1922, this sculpture by Nancy Coonsman Hahn consists of a granite column on a pedestal. At its top stands the Victory holding a laurel wreath and an olive branch.
