Plateau de Sainte-Anne, with its chapel and magnificent panoramic views over the Aire valley
Clermont-en-Argonne owes its name to the steep hill that dominates the entire valley and that is nowadays called the Sainte-Anne plateau. Occupied since prehistoric times, a wooden castle stood there in the 11th century. Rebuilt in stone in the 13th century, it was demolished in the 17th century. The 14th century Sainte-Anne chapel was built on the site of the former castle chapel. The site offers a magnificent panorama over the valley of the Aire which is worth a visit.
