SOUVILLE FORT
A fort equipped with two single trunks at its two ends and a double trunk on its front point with a 100 m turret.
Built by General Séré de Rivières (1875-1879). Of unusual shape, the fort is equipped with two single safes at its two ends and a double safe on its front point. From 1888 onwards, it underwent modifications to make it more resistant. Between 1890 and 1891, a turret was built about 100 m west of the fort. In 1914, just after mobilisation, the fort had a garrison of around 350 men. It was the "rear base" of the works and forts that preceded it, and was linked by telephone cables to the forts at Douaumont and Vaux.
