NATIONAL FOREST NECROPOLIS
A place of remembrance with graves of different nationalities at Lachalade.
2,005 soldiers, including 10 Garibaldians, lie in this cemetery in the heart of the Argonne forest. Located 2.5 km from the Haute Chevauchée ossuary, it has the particularity of being very flowery: on each grave a clump of hydrangeas has been planted. Unusual and unique in France, it was the Countess Martimprey who planted them after the war. Before arriving at the Croix de la Pierre crossroads, a blockhouse bears the name of Lieutenant Courson, who served in the artillery.
