The old church having been destroyed in 1544 by Charles V's troops, a new Gothic building was built, showing Renaissance influences. The Saint-Augustin portal with twisted columns dates back to 1633. It houses various remarkable works: Ligier Richier's Le Tombeau du maréchal du Luxembourg, a Pietà of Saint-Mihiel's workshops where pieces, dice and nails are carved, symbolizing Christ's passion, a pulpit that has been magnificently preserved and finally the painting on silk and gilded copper that gives its name to the church and makes the city proud since this painting made in the 13th century is full of history (s)... to discover!
